I just saw the re-reproduced G1 Optimus Prime today and I have had a thought. What if they made an Optimus that transforms like the G1 version, or it transforms like the 20th anniversary/masterpiece version within the same figurine? Would it be possible for both versions to transform from the one unit?

What if the shape of the truck could transform into the G1 basic transformation, then could transform into the more complex 20th anniversary version of Optimus. They both come from the same basic truck cab, only one is a more detailed robot than the other. Would that be possible?

in that case i think it would be very difficult to make if not impossible to have both transformations with in the same bot if it was possible however it would make for a very expensive toy as the tooling would be very intricate the toy it's self would be flimsy as to make room for both the conversions will impede the structure i would imagine they would have to totally remove all the metal parts to make it possible then there's the price tag it would not be viable for hasbro or takara tomy to make the toy and to make profit at the same time. even so its a cool idea

Ermm, I don't reeeeally get the point of this thread. They've made three 'G1' Prime figures lately.
20th Anniversary Prime Classics Deluxe Prime Robot Masters Optimus Prime
All three of these figures are based on G1 Prime and share the same, if not very similar transformation and same alt-mode. Why the hell would you want a toy to transform twice, once with articulation, and once without? Why you don't just simply pose these Primes like G1 Prime is posed. It's really not that difficult is it?!

Let me take a stab at it:
You want it to look like the old G1 in cab and robot mode, but have all the engineering, transformation, joints, bells and whistles, etc that is found in the Masterpiece?

darrens meaning a truck that:
IS a g1 prime - same robot mode, same cab mode, same transformation:
BUT CAN ALSO
transform/change- into the masterpiece prime figure, cab ,and has his transformation.
all in one "figure"
this would make it a quad-changer.
it is impossible to do, before you even get to figure out how to do it, you cant have both as either the masterpiece or g1 "mode" as one of the final modes would lose out size wise, or booth completely.

Not necessarily two truck modes, but the one truck transforming into both robot modes, in essence a Punch/Counterpunch only with two different versions of Optimus. That is what I was trying to get across.

It would have to have both nonremoval and removable hands.
Something about that concept I find charming.
